The University of Canberra is seeking a highly experienced Level E Professor and Discipline Lead in Speech Pathology to build up the new School of Speech Pathology. The University will be commencing its course offerings for the new Masters in Speech Pathology programme in 2018.

A large-scale campus development (approximately $2 billion) is under way, emphasizing university and industry collaboration, with health as one of the major areas of development. The $139 million construction of the University of Canberra Public Hospital is one of the most important projects that the ACT government is undertaking. It will become a teaching hospital and will provide a combination of 140 admitted overnight beds and 75 admitted day service places as well as extensive, purpose built ambulatory areas, outpatient services and a variety of specially designed therapy and support spaces. This is another great example of how the ACT Government’s reforms are enabling the University of Canberra to provide more community orientated services on the campus to attract more new students and brand-new facilities for researchers.

As the very first Discipline Lead and Professor of Speech Pathology for this exciting brand-new course, you will be providing leadership on professional matters, teaching and research within the Discipline. The Discipline Lead advises, reports to and works closely with the Head of School. You will also be expected to continue to make contributions to the teaching effort of the Discipline, and undertake scholarship, research and/or professional activities in accordance with their substantive academic appointment.

The Professor of Speech Pathology has a role in research leadership in the University, which is increasing postgraduate student capacity, research and innovation. The Professorial role includes mentoring of staff students and industry partners in research endeavours, and providing strategic vision in research for the Discipline.

The Discipline of Speech Pathology is responsible for contributing to the growth of the University of Canberra’s reputation as Australia’s Capital University by preparing people professionally, through work-based learning, interdisciplinary scholarship and collaboration with industry, government departments and the wider community.  Your demonstrated track record and expertise in a senior or similar professorial role in Speech Pathology will enable you to make your mark in driving the development of this newly established School.
