About the opportunity:
The University of Canberra is seeking a passionate and experienced academic leader to join our Faculty of Health in a senior role within the Discipline of Nursing. Reporting to the Discipline Lead or Head of School, Nursing & Midwifery, this position offers the opportunity to shape the future of nursing education and research in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
This leadership role is responsible for advancing excellence in teaching, research, and engagement across the Nursing discipline. You will foster strong relationships with industry, government departments (ACT, Commonwealth, NSW), professional bodies, and community groups to support the strategic initiatives of the Faculty and School.
Key Responsibilities:
Foster excellence in staff performance and cultivate a positive organisational culture
Strengthen the scholarship of teaching and learning through innovative methodologies and curriculum development
Ensure nursing degrees meet current and future workforce needs
Promote student recruitment, retention, and satisfaction
Lead or contribute to accreditation and reaccreditation processes, ensuring compliance with discipline standards
Initiate and develop collaborative research programs with sustainable external funding
Attract, mentor, and support postgraduate research students
Promote excellence in disciplinary and interdisciplinary scholarship
Participate in School, Faculty, and professional meetings
Undertake other duties as required by the Head of School and appropriate to the classification level
Requirements:
PhD in Nursing or a related field
Unconditional registration with AHPRA as a Nurse in Australia
Proven track record in research publications, HDR supervision, and competitive grant success
Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality education to undergraduate and postgraduate students
Evidence of mentoring early to mid-career researchers (highly desirable)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships
Previous academic leadership experience (highly desirable)
