About the opportunity:

The Faculty of Business, Government & Law is seeking a strategic, energetic and collegial leader to serve as Head of the Canberra School of Government. Our diverse School delivers practical education, excellent graduate outcomes, and strong expertise across government and public policy which is core to UC’s mission for Canberra and supported by our BGL strategy 2025 - 2028.

The Head of School will provide academic, strategic, and operational leadership, driving growth, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring high-quality teaching, research, and engagement. As a senior member of the Faculty Executive, the role oversees staff, programs, curriculum renewal, budget, and external engagement with government, industry, and community.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage academic staff, workforce planning, and performance.
  • Oversee academic programs, quality assurance, and curriculum reform.
  • Build strong partnerships with government, industry, and advisory groups.
  • Drive growth in student numbers and diversification of revenue.
  • Support research excellence and interdisciplinary engagement.
  • Manage School operations, including budget and strategic planning.
  • Represent the School within UC and at external events.
  • Exploring innovative and modern approaches for the school’s advancement (including AI tools)

Requirements:

We are seeking an experienced leader with:

  • Proven staff and academic leadership experience.
  • Understanding of accreditation, TEQSA, and higher education policy.
  • Excellence in teaching and course design.
  • A strong research profile in relevant disciplines OR significant senior leadership experience in government or industry.
  • Demonstrated innovation, engagement, and partnership-building.
  • PhD Qualifications
