About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Cyber Security to join our leadership team and drive the cyber security agenda at UC. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for setting and executing the overall strategic direction of cybersecurity and the management and delivery of the cyber operations, aligning with the University’s digital strategy and 10 year Master plan.

Key responsibilities:

The Head of Cyber Security will lead our Cyber Security team, ensuring the safety and integrity of UC's digital assets. Working closely with the CIO to establish an innovative cybersecurity roadmap, the position will ensure that the University remains resilient against ever-evolving cyber threats. Other responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the Cyber Security team, providing mentorship, professional development, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Change management, strategic initiatives, and implementing robust cyber tools and processes.
  • Oversee the implementation of cutting-edge cyber security tools, systems, and processes.
  • Design and specify security systems and processes that protect the University’s IT environment.
  • Communicate technical cybersecurity updates and risks to senior executives, aligning with the broader University and Digital Strategy.
  • Conduct audits and reviews to ensure compliance with best practices, cybersecurity frameworks, and threat detection methods.
  • Build strong relationships across the higher education and government sectors to stay ahead of cybersecurity trends.
  • Lead day-to-day cybersecurity operation that ensures the core pillars of Govern, Protect, Detect and Respond/Recover are delivered
  • Conduct regular research to remain at the forefront of cybersecurity developments and ensure UC’s defences are continuously strengthened.

About you:

  • Tertiary Qualification in technology and/ or Leadership or substantial equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in leading and managing cybersecurity teams and strategies within large and complex organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity culture, frameworks, tools, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into actionable insights for senior leadership.
  • A track record of driving cybersecurity innovation and maturity improvements in an enterprise environment.
  • Proven experience in managing incident response programs and leading crisis situations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex issues and deliver quality outcomes.
